52nd VI-HPS Tuning Workshop
BZ.08.02 - Hörsaal 03
Campus Grifflenberg
Together with VI-HPS and HPC.nrw, the PLEIADES Team hosts the 52nd VI-HPS Tuning Workshop in Wuppertal. The workshop is aimed at HPC users and developers who want to improve their understanding and knowledge of performance measurement tools in an HPC environment.
To quote from the VI-HPS webpage:
VI-HPS Tuning Workshops are the major training vehicle where around 30 participants receive instruction and guidance applying VI-HPS tools to their own parallel application codes, along with advice for potential corrections and optimizations. Feedback to tools developers also helps direct tools development to user needs, as well as improve tool documentation and ease of use. These workshops of three to five days at HPC centres occur at least twice per year, and are complemented by additional courses and tutorials at conferences, seasonal schools and other invited training events. Training events of individual VI-HPS partners can be found on their own websites.
Coordinated tools training material is available with emphasis on hands-on exercises using VI-HPS tools individually and interoperably. Exercises with example MPI+OpenMP or MPI+OpenACC/CUDA/HIP parallel applications can be configured to run on dedicated HPC compute resources.
The exact range of tools is still under discussion, but will likely involve tools like Score-P, Scalasca, Vampir, Linaro Forge, and many more.
The exact course agenda, timeline and list of instructors will be publish at a later time.
We have up to 30 seats available.

Important information and requirements
- You should prepare your own code you want to measure and optimize.
Keep the execution times short enough for quick iterations during the course, but long enough to represent a typical workload, e.g. a couple of minutes. - For the coding sessions, please bring your personal laptop and corresponding power cables
- You should have access to an HPC system, installed with the performance tools discussed during the event
- This course is free of cost for members of German universities or publicly-funded research institutions in Germany. Please register the course using your university/institution e-mail address.
- The number of seats is limited and the allocation of seats is done by the organizer.
